A New Regional Sales Tax Could Cost You $980 Million a Year — Would It Actually Fix BART's Deficit?
Bay Area voters decide this November on a 14-year regional sales tax (0.5%-1%) projected to raise $980M/year for BART, Muni, Caltrain, and AC Transit. Santa Clara County keeps 84.37% of its local share via VTA, but BART's own forecasts show a deficit gap even if it passes, and a well-funded opposition campaign is pushing back hard.
